It was a Friday when John felt that there was something missing in his life. He struggled with everything he did that day. What ever it was that he felt missing was bothering him too much. John decided that it was best if he avoided everyone he knew so that they wouldn't be alarmed by this sudden shift of emotion. So he did as he planned and avoided his friends.

That evening, he thought he'd grab a beer and re-think everything he has done in his life - his decisions, his choices, his everything. No experience was spared in this desperate attempt to discover this mystery that has been swallowing his being. As he was very methodical, he started first with his childhood experiences. He had a decent family. They weren't rich but they could support themselves properly. “No problem there." John said. Next he evaluated his teenage years. John was never left out during his time in. He would always be where the action was. He was smart too. So, it couldn't have been his teenage experience. He had been involved in an array of activities during college and by the time he graduated, he had experienced most of life. "No problem there." He interrupted his thought again. Pausing for a moment, he then shook his head and decided to go home with unresolved problems.

The next night he decided to hang-out with friends hoping that their energy would somehow transfer their excess glow to him. They drank and had fun the entire night. Going from club to club, dancing, singing, the menu for that evening's event was endless. Still, after everything that had just taken place. He still did not feel that he had figured out the mystery that has been troubling him.

The next night he felt like a road trip was the solution. He grabbed his car keys, hit the gas, and off into the sunrise he was. Scenery after scenery flashed by as the clear blue sky turned to purple and eventually blackness. The moon was up and the stars were dancing in the sky luring John to join their fun. He could not though. He was still intoxicated with the unknown that has conquered him since Friday.

That evening, on his way home, he stopped at a station to gas-up and have a couple of cigarettes. An old guy came by and asks for a few dimes so that he could get something to eat. John gave him a 20 and he went away. A few minutes later he was back.
"What do you want now old man?" John asked with a hint of annoyance now.
"I just wanted to thank you Mr." said the old man.

"Word of advice: don't take uncertainties too seriously. Let them come and decide. Let them teach you how life should be lived."

"Excuse me?" John asked baffled.

"Live life my good man. Don’t let past mistakes bound you from what you still have to see in this world. That much I can tell you..."

The old man smiled and walked away. John could only gawk at the words the old man told him at that moment. But as he was driving home, he realized the value of these words and he smiled...
